UTILITAS annual sustainability and ESG report
The aim of the project was to create a structure for Utilitas’ annual report, to help select appropriate metrics, to write the content of sustainability and ESG topics and to design the Estonian and English versions of the report.
Main activities
Conceptualisation
We agreed with the Utilitas Board on the concept and format of the report. We decided not to formally follow the ESG reporting standards, but to take them as a model.
Creating the structure
we analysed Utilitas’ current reporting practices and proposed a new annual report structure by chapter and by topic, bringing together the business overview, ESG and sustainability management and financial results in the annual report.
Mapping
We mapped which ESG and sustainability issues have a material impact on Utilitas’ operations to report on (in line with international benchmarks, regulations, sector guidelines and good practice).
Identification of metrics
We recommended environmental, social impact and responsible governance (ESG) metrics (KPIs) for reporting results/data.
Content development
We interviewed Utilitas’ business leaders and area managers to map governance practices and developments over the past year.
Design
We designed the final versions of the report with Utilitas’ visual identity – in Estonian and English, web and print versions.
Results
The result was a comprehensive, comprehensive 2020 Annual Report with an attractive, easy-to-read design that describes the context and relevance of sustainability for Utilitas, the activities and results of the year under review, and future ambitions for ESG and sustainability. In the 2021 report, we helped to further develop the design, complement the content and add new perspectives where needed.
